Please feel free to ask (and answer?) any questions you might have concerning summer reading or questions about the class in general. These questions may be about the content of the text, questions about the study guides, or understanding literary terms. Remember to identify who you are when you post so I know to whom I must respond … and continue to check the website for updates.
While Thomas Foster obviously has value in our classroom texts, his concepts can also be seen in most of our popular films and television shows. Chapter 12's "It's All Political" has obvious connections to Star Wars, GoT and TWD...even Harry Potter. Settings, geography, metaphorical vampires? They are everywhere. Use this blog to converse with each other about what you see and read outside the classroom...and earn B-squares for your insights. Be certain to explain your insights - how and where you see the connections. Please post a spoiler alert if you are, in fact, giving a big reveal....and take the time to read and respond to each other's ideas!
I look forward to some dialogue with you. Current English 9 Scholars: Please share your survival strategies with the incoming freshmen. These can include tips about summer reading, managing the work load, and just how to generally navigate the landscape of being an honor student in 9th grade.
My hope for you as you read the encyclopediac tome, Mythology, is that you recognize words, names, advertising logos, characters from other books, films, or even video games, etc. from the stories, the gods, and the mortals within. When you experience such an “a-ha” moment, please share! The easiest ones to notice are the names of our solar system’s planets correlate to Roman deities. Apply this picture to a film adaptation of a book you have read. Be specific in your analysis. If you see that a classmate already selected the book you were going to use, reply to that classmate and add your own insights. Agree/ disagree with each other respectfully. You may certainly have more than one post if you have multiple books to discuss. |
