"Reading is an event of the imagination. The creativity of the reader meets that of the writer, and in that meeting we puzzle out what he means, or what we understand he means." --Thomas Foster

2017 Summer Reading Assignment
You are NOT responsible for the district's 9th grade reading assignment; as an incoming English 9 honor student, you ONLY need to read the texts on my list; however, feel free to read anything on the school-wide list for your enjoyment.

Assignment:
You must read How to Read Literature Like a Professor: For Kids, select portions of Mythology (Hamilton), and the collection of short fiction, essays, and poetry in the packet received in class and listed below. You can find copies of these pieces on this page.
Also: Memorize the gods/goddess chart in your summer reading materials. There will be a quiz during the first week of school....and it will count!
Use the study guides for both books to help you read and understand the books more fully. WARNING: Do not use ANY online or print study aids (including such things as Sparknotes, etc) to aid you as you complete these guides or your reading circle planner. No credit will be given to any assignment for which I suspect you have used such tools.
Note: The introductory letter downloaded from THIS website lists the 2016-7 school year; however, the assignment is the same for this upcoming year.
