My hope for you as you read the encyclopediac tome, Mythology, is that you recognize words, names, advertising logos, characters from other books, films, or even video games, etc. from the stories, the gods, and the mortals within. When you experience such an “a-ha” moment, please share! The easiest ones to notice are the names of our solar system’s planets correlate to Roman deities.

I love Paris, ruining lives and starting wars one bad decision at a time. First, he chose the fairest goddess between Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena. He was able to anger Hera and Athena at the same time by choosing Aphrodite as the fairest. Then, he stole Helen away from Menelaus making Helen the face that launched a thousand ships being as Troy then declared war on Greece. Kristina, who's your favorite character from Greek Mythology?

Wow Sam, that was a very detailed response. One of my all time favorite characters from Greek Mythology has to be Midas. After he was granted one wish from Dionysus, and he chose to have everything he touched turn to gold. He displayed hubris when he only cared that his food and drink turned to gold, and not his daughter.

I'm not sure if I agree that Midas was displaying hubris when he only cared that his food and drink turn to gold, and not his daughter. I do think that this was selfish behavior, but I think the display of hubris came long before this occurrence.

I understand what you are saying, however I think his hubris increases at this moment. He is displaying excessive pride, [which is the definition of hubris] by not caring about others, only himself.

Apollo, he's the god of music, arts, light, and healing which I see as more useful than theatre and wine. Leave a Reply. |
